I. Air Suspension System
1. Introduction
Air suspension is the air suspension control system of the vehicle. It controls the movement of the air bellows through the solenoid valves based on the readings of the sensors by using the electronic control unit (ECU).Together with the switches, the ECU can perform other control functions besides the normal ride height control. The ECAS (electronically controlled air suspension) is a highly integrated and modularly designed product and it is capable of performing various functions depending on the customer requirements and the choices of the original equipment manufacturers.
Description of Functions
7.1.1 Normal Ride Height Control
This is the basic function of the air suspension. It senses the current height of the vehicle at any time through constant comparison of the height provided by the height sensors with the calibrated height. If the height difference exceeds the preset tolerance range, the solenoid valves are activated to adjust the actual height to the calibrated height by increasing and reducing the bellow pressure. Unlike conventional vehicle suspension systems, the air suspension controls both the normal height and the pre-selected height. If there is a great change in the height (depending on the ascending velocity and the distance away from the normal height), the solenoid valves are activated, so that the bellows are inflated and deflated in a slower manner just when the vehicle height reaches the normal height to prevent overshoot. All control processes can be applied to the front and rear axles simultaneously.
7.1.2 Manual Height Adjustment through Switches/Buttons
The vehicle height can be lifted and restored at a certain speed which can be set. Both the ascending switch and the descending switch are reset ones. To descend, make sure that the air supply pressure to the bellows is greater than 6bar. Otherwise, the descending switch will be ineffective.
7.1.3 Restoring Normal Height
① Through switch control. The switch for restoring the normal height is a reset switch.
②Through speed control. The normal height will be restored automatically when the vehicle speed exceeds the specified speed.
7.1.4 Height Limit
When the vehicle reaches the highest preset position, the electronic controller will automatically end the height adjustment to keep the current vehicle height.
2. Body Height
7.2.1Normal Body Height
a. Ground clearance of the front door floor is about 330mm.
b. Ground clearance of the middle door floor is about 340mm.
7.2.2 Max. Body Height
a. Ground clearance of the front door floor is about 390mm.
b. Ground clearance of the middle door floor is about 410mm.
7.2.3 Min. Body Height
a. Ground clearance of the front door floor is about 250mm.
b. Ground clearance of the middle door floor is about 270mm.
7.2.4 Body Height Adjustment
When the body height does not meet the above required height or the left-right body height error is too large (that is to say, the vehicle tilts), it is necessary to get the body height to return to the normal level by adjusting the air suspension system.
a. Open the access cover of the front compartment, and connect the computer specially designed for adjusting the air suspension system to the connector (②) of the air suspension's ECU in front of the ABS ECU (①).
b. Adjust the front-rear body height to meet the requirements for the normal height with the program, and then adjust the left-right body height to level the body.
c. Adjusting the front-rear height sensor. When the difference between the numerical value and the standard value is smaller, loosen the nut (A) and fine-tune the height sensor position until the data reflected by the height sensor position meets the requirements in the computer. When the difference between the numerical value and the standard value is larger, loosen the slotted-head bolt (B) and coarse-tune the length of the vertical rod (C), and then tighten the slotted-head bolt (B). Then, unscrew the nut (A) to fine-tune the height sensor position until the data reflected by the height sensor position meets the requirements in the computer.
